So here is a simple comic to help understand the Occupy ____ Protests. Obviously there are some disagreements with their demands but this is the gist of what they’re disgruntled with.
I saw this picture the other day which is apparently spreading around the net with a girl holding a sign that said “I work xxx hours making minimum wage and I have zero debt, paid off all my tuition all without a bank loan instead of sitting outside wall street" (don’t quote me on this cause i can’t find the picture but that’s basically the gist of what she said).
Basically, she thinks everyone who is in debt or can’t pay student loans isn’t working hard enough. My TA for Politics of Development said he saw the same pic on someone’s FB wall and thought it was funny because that’s like saying to Africa, “YOU”RE POOR BECAUSE YOU DON”T WORK HARD ENOUGH”. Then he reflected on how while he was in India/Pakistan, he saw workers out on the field labouring for nearly the entire day but yet they were still poor… hmm… THEY AREN”T WORKING HARD ENOUGH.
